[P]ut not your trust in partisan politics. There is no hope there, at least not under the present two-party system. Rome, in the era of its prolonged decline, had two great political parties, the patricians and the plebeians, or, in the Byzantine version, the Greens and the Blues, which were closely associated with teams of chariot racers. The two-party system, in and of itself, is a symptom of decadence: it represents the degeneration of politics from a civic duty into an entertainment. Donald Trump?s candidacy underscores how relevant this analysis is to our present day condition...

The debt ceiling charade

With respect to the debt ceiling, let me issue an easy prediction: The Republicans are going to cave. They are going to vote to raise the debt ceiling. Oh sure, there will be plenty of posturing. There will be expressions of anger and outrage over out-of-control federal spending, borrowing, and debt. There will be political tactics to gain electoral advantage, including threats to 'shut down' the government...

So you are feeling a little let down? You probably voted for Democrats because you were tired of the endless wars, Gitmo, torture, the Patriot Act and the bad name the Republicans were giving the United States. We are disappointed too. But come to find out the Democrats have now escalated our current wars, and started new ones. They didn t close Gitmo and have just approved the Patriot Act yet again...

Don t be fooled by The Donald. Take it from one who knows: I am a South Jersey gal who was raised on the outskirts of Atlantic City in the looming shadow of Trump s towers. All through my childhood, casino developers and government bureaucrats joined hands, raised taxes and made dazzling promises of urban renewal. Then we wised up to the eminent-domain thievery championed by our hometown faux free-marketeers. America, it s time you wised up to Donald Trump s property redistribution racket, too...

Donald Trump: Corporatist bully
The Liberty Papers
by Stephen Littau

Donald Trump is the poster child for what many on the Left as a greedy capitalist; a caricature of everything that is wrong with capitalism as preached by the Ralph Naders and Michael Moores of the world. But those of us who know better know that Donald Trump isn t a capitalist at all but a corporatist. Trump doesn t try to work within a framework of a free market as a true capitalist would, but like far too many businessmen, he uses his wealth and influence to encourage the government to work on his behalf to his advantage (and at the expense of anyone else who would dare get in his way)...
