Both Los Angeles, California and Chicago, Illinois have both hosted demonstrators in the days since the first protest kicked off in New York, and now dozens of more locales across America are expected to be swarmed upon by citizens sick and tired of corrupt corporations.

Thinking about Revolution
By John Spritzler and Dave Stratman
John Adams wrote in 1815 that the American Revolution was not the revolutionary war. The war was only 'an effect and consequence of the Revolution in the minds of the people, from 1760-1775.' This is the Revolution that we are here attempting to achieve.

Corporations Couldn t Wait to 'Check the Box' on Huge Tax Break
Jeff Gerth, Megan Murphy and Vanessa Houlder, ProPublica: 'A simple rule meant to cut paperwork for U.S. companies has grown into one of the biggest multinational tax breaks around, costing the United States and other governments billions of dollars in lost taxes each year.'

Lawrence O'Donnell, MSNBC: 'This weekend a few troublemakers turned a peaceful protest against Wall Street greed into a violent burst of chaos. The troublemakers carried pepper spray and guns and were wearing badges.'

Onward to Wall Street
William Rivers Pitt, Truthout: 'In case you haven't heard, there is an ongoing protest taking place on Wall Street. There is no shame in being ignorant of the event; the 'mainstream' news media has gone out of its way to ignore what is happening down there, Yahoo s email service was recently busted for blocking messages having to do with the protest, and Twitter - that bastion of protest messaging for the people who organized the Arab Spring movements - has reportedly been quashing Wall Street protest-oriented tweets out of hand. If a tree falls in the forest and the 'mainstream' news doesn t report it, did it happen? Of course it did. Ask the tree.'

The Revolution Begins at Home: Join the Wall Street Occupation
Arun Gupta, Truthout: 'At some point, the number of people occupying Wall Street - whether that s five thousand, ten thousand or fifty thousand - will force the powers that be to offer concessions. No one can say how many people it will take or even how things will change exactly, but there is a real potential for bypassing a corrupt political process and to begin realizing a society based on human needs, not hedge fund profits. After all, who would have imagined a year ago that Tunisians and Egyptians would oust their dictators?

The One Answer: Tax the Rich
Robert Parry, Consortium News: 'It is curious that the American Right, which waxes nostalgic for the happier days of the 1950s when the United States was supposedly more moral and more united, ignores one of the central reasons behind that middle-class era: very high taxes on the rich. Granted, some on the Right may love the Fifties because it was a time of racial segregation and second-class status for women. But what arguably made the era work was the fact that the U.S. tax structure 'disincentivized' greed by ensuring that excess wealth was mostly recycled back into the Treasury for use building the nation and supporting research and development.'

Presumably, that is, judging from the terms of the debate, we re all supposed to implicitly recognize that politicians are corrupt to the bone, susceptible to purchase and sale like the judges and politicians Don Corleone carried in his pocket. Nevertheless, despite both this acknowledged fact and all of the eager cries for reform, for preventing corporate greed from shaping public policy, no one ever questions the hallowed assumption that we need people in positions of power and influence at all...

Is the United States a police state?

A police state, as I understand it, is not necessarily the same thing as a totalitarian state. A totalitarian state is necessarily a police state, but not vice versa. I think of a police state as one in which the government can find a charge to put you in prison even though you did nothing wrong...
