Arbeitszufriedenheit in Deutschland sinkt langfristig.

Science Distorted by the Bomb

Evaggelos Vallianatos, Truthout: 'The United States assumed the mantle of Western civilization immediately after blasting Japan with atomic weapons on August 6 and 9, 1945. Scientists created those weapons. By that act, scientists made science dangerous and changed themselves, America, and the world forever... Science is potentially lethal because, in many instances, it does not serve the well-being of citizens. Instead, it is a subsidiary to war; it fuels a medical system based on drugs rather than healing; it supports industrialized agriculture hooked on broad-spectrum toxins (biocides) that poison humans.'

Debt ceiling fraud

Future of Freedom Foundation
by Jacob G. Hornberger

08/02/11

I told you so! For the past several months, I have been saying that the Republicans were going to cave on the lifting of the debt ceiling. I have been writing it and I have been proclaiming it on my weekly Internet show. And sure enough, that?s exactly what they did. After weeks of huffing and puffing about the enormous size of the national debt and the out-of-control federal spending, they caved, once again, and voted to lift the debt ceiling...

Debt deal: Politicians win, middle class loses

Cato Institute
by Daniel J. Mitchell

08/02/11

America is on a path to becoming a Greek-style welfare state. Thanks to the Bush-Obama spending binge, the burden of federal spending has climbed to about 25% of national economic output, up from only 18.2% of GDP when Bill Clinton left office. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Because of a combination of demographic forces and poorly designed entitlement programs, federal spending could consume as much as 50% of economic output by the time the baby boom generation is fully retired...

Wars to nowhere

Authority!
by Timothy J Taylor

08/02/11

The biggest lie in the politician s trick box is that these wars to nowhere are necessary for the nation s defense. They aren t. Neither Afghanistan nor Iraq posed any credible threat to the United States before we invaded and occupied those nations. We simply stirred up a hornets nest in the Middle East...

A Tale of Two Lootings

Richard D. Wolff, Truthout: 'The political posturing around the debt ceiling 'crisis' was mostly a distraction from the hard issues. The hardest of those - underlying US economic decline - keeps resurfacing to display costs, pains and injustices that threaten to dissolve society. Its causes - two long-term trends over the last 30 years - help also to explain the political failures that now compound the social costs of economic decline.'

Who Gains From Debt Deal? The Pentagon, for One

Nancy A. Youssef, McClatchy Newspapers: 'The last-minute deal that Congress is considering to raise the federal debt limit probably will mean trillions of dollars in government spending reductions for most agencies. But one department stands to gain: the Pentagon. Rather than cutting $400 billion in defense spending through 2023, as President Barack Obama had proposed in April, the current debt proposal trims $350 billion through 2024, effectively giving the Pentagon $50 billion more than it had been expecting over the next decade.'

Raising The Debt; Lowering The Boom

by Pastor Chuck Baldwin

The big story this week is the decision of the US Congress and Senate to raise the debt ceiling. Did this really surprise anyone? Despite millions of pieces of communication from their constituents to the contrary, congressmen and senators voted by substantial margins to increase the debt ceiling by up to $2.4 trillion. The House vote was 269 to 161. The Senate vote was 74 to 26. Coincidentally, the amount of this increase to the debt ceiling is now the largest debt-limit increase in US history........
