Bin Laden Out, Gaddafi Next

The 'new' sociopolitical Darwinism entails humanitarian neo-colonialism, targeted assassinations - extrajudicial executions - and drone wars, all carried out in the name of a revamped white man s burden.

'Osama bin Laden: Dead or Alive?'

We examine all the evidence, both that indicating bin Laden died, and that suggesting he was still alive in 2009; the important bin Laden videos and audio recordings, the significance, if any, in the timing of their release; and statements by significant political and intelligence figures.

Humanitarian intervention

Rad Geek People s Daily
by Rad Geek

05/11/11

Lieutenant General Charles Bouchard, Commander of NATO s Military Operations in Libya, would like you to know that 'NATO is fulfilling its U.N. mandate to stop and prevent attacks against civilians with precision and care.' Protecting Libyan civilians apparently includes taking the time to fire two missile into a family home and executing babies for having the wrong grandfather. But not taking the time to stop and rescue 72 Libyan refugees ? people fleeing the war that NATO is practicing with so much 'precision and care' - from dying of hunger and thirst while adrift at sea...

Why the nature of bin Laden s death matters

Libertarian Alliance
by Robert Henderson

05/11/11

The preservation of the integrity of national sovereignty is reason enough to be disturbed the nature of bin Laden s death, but there also the fact that action such as this transgresses precisely the values which countries such as Britain and the USA purport to embody; the rule of law, no sentence without trial, the presumption of innocence, freedom from arbitrary state action...

The Crash and Burn of Old Regimes

William J. Astore, TomDispatch: 'When it comes to war, the American ruling class has relegated the members of its Third Estate alternately to the role of 'foreign legionnaires' in overseas service, or silent spectators passively watching moves on the big board. These, in turn, are continually interpreted for us by retired members of the Second Estate: generals and admirals in mufti, hired by the corporate media to provide color commentary on Washington s wars. Small wonder that today s Beltway elite is as imperious and detached as yesterday s Court of Louis XIV.'

Koch Brothers Fueling Far-Right Academic Centers Across the US

Lee Fang, ThinkProgress: 'As reporter Kris Hundley notes, Koch virtually owns much of George Mason University, another public university, through grants and direct control over think tanks within the school. For instance, Koch controls the Mercatus Center of George Mason University, an institute that set much of the Bush administration s environmental deregulation policy. And similar conditional agreements have been made with schools like Clemson and West Virginia University. ThinkProgress has analyzed data from the Charles Koch Foundation, and found that this trend is actually much larger than previously known.'

Let the Patriot Act expire

Campaign For Liberty
by Philip Giraldi

05/11/10

Congress will soon be considering renewal of major portions of the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act is generally promoted as the principal legislative tool being used to fight international terrorism, but it played no role whatsoever in the recent killing of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. The Act is, in reality, a devastating and poorly conceived bit of legislation originally approved just after 9/11. It will soon be up for an extension in the US Senate prior to the expiration of some key elements on May 27th...

A wider war on terror

The American Prospect
by Adam Serwer

05/10/11

A week after the death of Osama bin Laden, Congress is expanding the war on terror. Last week s raid on bin Laden s compound in Abbottabad was made possible by the 2001 Authorization to Use Military Force (AUMF), which empowered the president to bring those involved in the 9/11 attacks to justice. But since then, that authorization has also been used by both the Obama and Bush administrations to justify attacks against suspected targets abroad who were not directly involved in the 9/11 attacks. Legal experts have questioned whether the 2001 AUMF explicitly grants that authority...
