This event I was talking about was organized by Bombay Telephone User s Association (BTUA) on "Consumer Awareness and Radiation Health Hazards from cell phones and mobile towers - Myth or Reality", where expertsfrom various fields appeared.

While there were people from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Telecom User Group (TUG), Prof Girish Kumar from IIT Bombay and others, no official representation appeared from the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). At the end of the event "so many" victims came forward and spoke about their health problems and the increasing number of cancer cases in their locality.

One cancer patient (meningioma) who had recovered has got the tumour back and people were shaken on seeing her situation and listening to her and her neighbors case. In fact before I was aware of four cancer cases but in the event she mentioned that the number of cancer cases had risen to six now and these cases were reported on the 5th, 6th (2 cases), 7th, 8th and 10th floor, all these houses are in direct line of sight from the towers installed on the7th Floor of opposite building located at a distance of about 50 meter.

Another lady (a doctor by profession) has developed ovarian cancer and mentioned that nine ladies developed cancer in a row. Even they have several towers very close and opposite to their building.

Other person mentioned that there were towers atop his house (10m distance) and his grandson becomes epileptic when he is at home.

Many others complained of severe headaches, buzzing sensation in the head, fatigued, involuntarily hand movements, heavy heads, severe body pains and so on.

It is really disheartening when you see such cases yourself. People are really suffering and are very angry now. However, the rules which have been framed by the industry has made the common man totally helpless!

We don't know what the governments and industries are waiting for - Perhaps a cancer boom! I I really hope not.
