Oakville Town Council meeting on May 14, 2012
As reported in my notes from the Canadian Wireless Technology Association Antenna Siting Forum in Ottawa this past Tuesday, the CWTA, Health Canada, and Industry Canada are all intending to delegate at the Oakville Town Council meeting Monday May 14th. This unprecedented action springs from our objections to the Town s proposal for the reduction of a 200m interim setback protocol, to a 20m setback. I have copied below a quote from an editorial in Oakville Today. The Town staff have said that Industry Canada has told them that the 200m setback is too onerous.
The MyBronte.ca group, and the C4CA (Citizens for Clean Air) group are asking for letters of support/concern specifically with regard to our common purpose: to drive a common sense approach for the appropriate placement of cell towers and their emissions to protect citizen?s health and safety.
Beyond stating your perspective on the national need for an urgent call to action on this front, if you care to add specific concerns to the letter detailing what drives your actions in this regard, please feel free to do so. Please address the letters to the Mayor and Council, Town of Oakville, re: Proposed Final RadioCommunications Protocol, but submit them through me by email or by mail - let me know if you chose snail mail and I will give you my address.
Further, we ask that groups in the GTA and other nearby vicinities, wherever possible, nominate a spokesperson to register as a delegate to speak to the meeting. (bring other folks to bear witness, but one person to speak) You do so by calling 905 845-6601 x 4183, and please notify me if you do register. A 5 minute presentation would be appreciated. This is an opportunity for you to speak directly to the media, to Health Canada and Industry Canada and the CWTA, and to prove to them that, contrary to the sentiment that was commonly voiced at the CWTA Forum, community concerns across Canada over tower placement have not in fact gone down over the past few years. It is our belief that the truth is that on the contrary, citizen groups and municipalities are tired of beating their heads on the wall on this issue, but that given hope of change, they will actively voice growing concern. We hope to offer that 'hope of change' in our actions, and have taken a strong stance in order to do so.
Your help would be greatly appreciated, and your efforts will help us, together, to drive change. If you would like a copy of my notes from the CWTA Forum, pls send me an email and I would be happy to forward them. And if you know of other groups, or people who hold public office, or civil servants who would write similar letters of concern, please pass this along to them.
This ball is rolling. Please add your push!
